Invader Zim: Through the Fangirl's Twisted Mind
Chapter Eleven: Zim Self-Analyzes
The lab was quiet. Zim had locked all entrances to it, even the ones his friends did not know about. He sat in front of the head monitor, contemplating the situation for a moment. He had created a brain probe which would analyze his thoughts when he looked at pictures of Gaz, which would show what exactly he felt when he was near her.
With one click of a button, the probe started, and he pulled out a few photographs he had taken for the occasion. There was that feeling, the one he didn't recognize. He only had this feeling when he was near Gaz, so he also prepared a few photographs of Gir, the Tallest, and Dib as an experimental control to show which areas of the brain were stimulated when he didn't look at Gaz. He flipped through photos, until at last there was a beeping noise and the probe turned off. He removed the helmet and put away the photos. On the monitor was a line graph highlighting his mind activity during certain points of the experiment.
He processed the graph into another one which analyzed his feelings when he looked at certain photographs of certain people. It showed that when he looked at photographs of Gir, Dib, and the Tallest, he was somewhat happy. The computer appeared to be confused by the emotions displayed when Zim looked at pictures of Gaz. He had to reprocess the information several times over to get an accurate reading. At last, the reading came through.
Highlighted in bold, Irken lettering was one four-letter word: love.
Impossible. Love was a human emotion. Specific to humans. As far as he knew, no other race in the universe had an emotion identical to it. He was Irken, not human. But he had been living on Earth, enveloped in its culture for almost a year, and cultural differences could be imprinted into a foreigner's habits and behavior. So, had he picked up an entirely new emotion? Unlikely. He reprocessed the information over and over again, but the same reading came through.
Love.
